How to Eat during Festival season

Healthy and wealthy festive platter

The Indian festive season is around the corner. One after the other, there is a lot to celebrate in the coming weeks. With all the joy and celebrations, there also comes a lot of parties, yummiest food n drinks and festive chores.  While doing so there is always a thought at the back of our mind- how  should we eat without hampering our health, happiness festivity  and weight. In this blog, let's discuss some practical ways to maintain our health, diet , and energy during the festive season.

First thing first we should not stop having festive food during festivals as it can have negative impact on our mind, health and motivation. After that follow these tips:

Pre- Meal

People believe in skipping the meal before having festive meals/ parties. Their purpose behind this is  to balance calorie consumption. However it backfires terribly. Skipping meal causes bloating, fluctuation in BP, low energy and dull face. Best thing to do is instead of skipping, have a nutrition dense pre meal like banana, smoothie, salad, sandwich, yogurt and nuts etc.  in moderation. This way you also avoid overeating at parties.

On the table:

You and your body deserve that set of  festive platter and taste during the festive season. But, the place where you need to put a break is on all the packaged and processed foods that are distributed and brought to homes. Besides it, you can eat all traditional and festive food like  puri -bhaji,   fresh kheer, lauki /suji/gajar  halwa, coconut, and besan laddoos.  All home made sweets, savouries. seasonal and festive food can be consumed without guilt. Homemade food will not ruin your diet and weight if you eat it in adequate quantity.

Do not  misunderstand hunger and thirst signals. Eat well before drinking to avoid bloating and digestive issues. If you are opting for an alcoholic drink, mix it with water, ginger and mint leaves. In case of a non-alcoholic drink, have coconut water or lime soda. Avoid cocktails and mocktails at all costs as they are high in calories.

During festive  parties have only 2 starter dishes, and 3 items from a single cuisine for your main course and go for traditional sweets prepared only during the festive season. Trust me, this is going to work for you and add joy in your body also.

Post Meal

Have plain lemon water or ajwain water after festive parties and before going to bed will help.

Get back to your healthy routine  as the festivity is over. There is no need to torture your body by increasing your exercise or missing meals the following day. That is not the way our body functions, give it time and it will be back to routine.

So hook line is that cutting festive food is not going to help however eating wisely and fondly will add to your health,  beauty, joy and  motivation.

May you enjoy coming festive season with food, family and friends and do not forget to share your experience here in comment box.
